These Air Fryer Pizza Balls are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack featuring biscuit dough filled with mozzarella cheese, mini pepperoni, and pizza sauce, cooked to crispy golden perfection in the air fryer and brushed with a flavorful garlic butter topping.

Ingredients

Dough & Filling

  • 16.3 ounce (8 count) Southern Homestyle Buttermilk Biscuits
  • 1 cup pizza sauce (divided use, plus more for serving)
  • ½ cup mini pepperoni slices
  • 4 mozzarella string cheese sticks (cut into fourths, then sliced vertically, yielding 8 pieces per stick)

Garlic Butter Topping

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (can use salted)
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 Tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Garnish

  • Fresh minced or dried parsley flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Flatten the Biscuits: Remove the biscuits from the can and, using a rolling pin, flatten each biscuit into a circle about 1/8 inch thick, roughly the size of a large grapefruit.
  2. Add Pizza Sauce: Place 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce in the center of each flattened biscuit.
  3. Add Cheese and Pepperoni: Top the sauce with 2 pieces of mozzarella string cheese sticks, then add 1 tablespoon of mini pepperoni slices, followed by 2 more pieces of mozzarella cheese sticks.
  4. Seal the Dough: Gather the edges of the biscuit circle and pinch them together tightly to enclose the filling, ensuring the seal isn’t too thick to avoid doughy centers.
  5. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat a 6-8 quart air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Generously spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with nonstick spray.
  6. Arrange and Cook: Place the sealed pizza balls seam side down in the basket, spacing them well for air circulation. Spray the tops lightly with nonstick spray. Cook for 6-8 minutes or until they turn dark golden brown and are cooked through—checking to avoid doughiness.
  7. Prepare Garlic Butter: While the pizza balls are cooking, melt ¼ cup unsalted butter with ¼ teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon Italian seasoning, and 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan in a microwave in 15-30 second bursts, stirring until combined.
  8. Brush and Garnish: Remove the cooked pizza balls from the air fryer and brush generously with the garlic butter mixture. Sprinkle with fresh or dried parsley flakes if desired.
  9. Serve: Serve warm with additional pizza sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Make sure to pinch the dough tightly when sealing to prevent filling from leaking out during cooking.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on the air fryer model; check for doneness to avoid undercooked centers.
  • Use fresh herbs for garnish to add a fresh flavor, or dried parsley for convenience.
  • These pizza balls are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the air fryer for a few minutes.
  • You can customize the fillings by adding vegetables or different types of cheese.
