This creamy and rich Avocado Chocolate Mousse is a healthy and delicious dessert that uses ripe avocados, dates, and semi-sweet chocolate to create a smooth, silky texture with natural sweetness. It’s dairy-free, naturally sweetened, and perfect for a quick and easy treat that can be served immediately or chilled for a refreshing finish.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 3 pitted dates
  • 1 ounce semi-sweet chocolate
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ⅓ cup nondairy milk (such as coconut or almond milk)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup, honey, or agave (optional for sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Avocados and Dates: Peel the avocados and remove the pits. Remove the pits from the dates as well. Place both in a food processor and pulse a few times to break them apart and begin blending.
  2. Melt Chocolate: Place the semi-sweet chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat it at 50% power in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
  3. Combine Ingredients in Food Processor: Add the melted chocolate, unsweetened cocoa powder, nondairy milk, vanilla extract, salt, and optional maple syrup to the food processor with the avocados and dates. Blend for about 1 minute, then scrape down the sides. Repeat blending two more times, for a total of approximately 3 minutes, until the mixture is silky, smooth, and well combined.
  4. Adjust Consistency and Serve: If the mousse is too thick, add a small amount of water or extra nondairy milk to thin it to your desired consistency and blend briefly. Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Notes

  • Start the recipe without adding maple syrup, then adjust sweetness to taste after blending. Alternatively, use a sugar-free sweetener of your choice.
  • Choose ripe but firm avocados for the best texture; avoid overripe or mushy ones.
  • Semi-sweet chocolate is recommended, but milk or dark chocolate can also be used based on preference.
  • If dates are firm, soak them in warm water beforehand to soften for easier blending.
  • A pinch of sea salt enhances the chocolate flavor.
  • If mousse is too thick, thin it with a small amount of water or nondairy milk.
  • Store mousse in an airtight container in the fridge to maintain freshness for up to 3 days.
