Avocado Crema is a smooth, creamy sauce made from ripe avocado blended with jalapeño, sour cream, fresh cilantro, lime juice, and a touch of kosher salt. This versatile condiment adds a cool, tangy, and slightly spicy flavor to tacos, grilled meats, salads, and more. Quick to prepare using a food processor, it can be stored for several days and customized in thickness and heat to perfectly suit your taste buds.

Ingredients

Avocado Crema Ingredients

  • 1 whole avocado
  • 1/2 jalapeño
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 2 tbsp fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Avocado: Cut the avocado in half lengthwise and carefully scoop out the flesh, placing it into the bowl of a food processor.
  2. Add Remaining Ingredients: Add the jalapeño, sour cream, fresh cilantro leaves, lime juice, and kosher salt to the food processor with the avocado.
  3. Blend Until Smooth: Process the mixture for 15-20 seconds until fully blended, creamy, and emulsified, ensuring all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  4. Serve and Garnish: Transfer the avocado crema to a serving dish. Optionally, garnish with a sprig of cilantro and a couple of thin slices of jalapeño for an attractive presentation.

Notes

  • STORAGE – Refrigerate for up to 5 days in a sealed plastic or glass container or squeeze bottle. To prevent browning, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface or store with the avocado pit inside the container.
  • If the crema is too thick, loosen it by adding an additional squeeze of fresh lime juice or a teaspoon of water and blend again.
  • If the crema is too thin, add half an avocado or a little more sour cream and blend until combined for desired consistency.
  • Adjust seasoning if bland by adding a pinch more salt or jalapeño to enhance flavor.
