A simple and elegant appetizer featuring creamy buffalo burrata infused with fresh basil, lemon zest, and garlic, served alongside crispy toasted ciabatta slices. This dish balances rich, gooey cheese with bright herbaceous and citrus flavors, finished with a touch of heat from red pepper flakes and the richness of olive oil.

Ingredients

Burrata Mixture

  • 4 ounce buffalo burrata
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Crushed red pepper flakes, to taste
  • Kosher or flaky sea salt, to taste
  • 3 tablespoon olive oil, divided

For Ciabatta Toasts

  • ½ loaf ciabatta or baguette, sliced thin

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for toasting the bread.
  2. Prepare the Burrata: Place the buffalo burrata in a shallow serving bowl and set it aside to come to room temperature for best creaminess.
  3. Make the Basil Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the chopped basil, lemon zest, minced garlic, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Season with crushed red pepper flakes and kosher salt to taste. Allow this mixture to sit and let the flavors meld while you prepare the toast.
  4. Toast the Ciabatta: Arrange the ciabatta slices on a baking sheet and lightly brush them with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Toast them in the preheated oven for 4 to 6 minutes until golden and crisp.
  5. Assemble and Serve: Place the toasted ciabatta in a serving dish or basket. Spoon the basil-lemon mixture over the burrata and then drizzle the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil around the bowl. Cut into the burrata so the creamy center flows out, and scoop with the toasted bread to enjoy.

Notes

  • For the best texture, serve burrata at room temperature rather than cold.
  • You can substitute ciabatta with baguette or any crusty bread available.
  • Adjust the amount of crushed red pepper flakes depending on your preferred spice level.
  • Extra lemon zest can be added for a more citrus-forward flavor.
  • This recipe makes a great appetizer or light snack, perfect for entertaining.
