This Blueberry Matcha Latte is a vibrant and refreshing beverage that combines the earthy flavor of matcha green tea with the sweet, fruity burst of homemade blueberry compote. Perfectly balanced with creamy milk and served over ice, this drink is a delightful treat ideal for any time of day.

Ingredients

Blueberry Compote

  • 3/4 Cup Blueberries
  • 3 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Water (for compote)

Matcha Mixture

  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons Matcha Powder
  • 1/4 Cup Water (for matcha)

Latte

  • 2 Cups Milk (divided)
  • Ice, as needed

Instructions

  1. Prepare Blueberry Compote: Rinse the blueberries thoroughly and remove any debris or stems. In a small saucepan, combine the blueberries, sugar, and 1/4 cup water. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves completely and the blueberries break down to form a compote-like consistency. Remove from heat and allow the compote to cool to room temperature.
  2. Whisk Matcha: In a small bowl, whisk together the matcha powder and 1/4 cup water until the mixture becomes light and foamy. Use a bamboo whisk for traditional preparation or an electric whisk for convenience. Ensure the water is warm but not hot to preserve the delicate flavors of the matcha.
  3. Assemble Latte: Divide the cooled blueberry compote evenly between two cups. Add a scoop of ice to each cup. Pour 1 cup of milk into each cup over the ice and compote. Finally, top each drink with the foamy matcha mixture.
  4. Serve and Enjoy: Serve immediately with a straw for stirring and sipping. Enjoy the harmonious blend of sweet blueberry and earthy matcha in a creamy, iced latte.

Notes

  • Use high-quality matcha green tea for the best flavor and health benefits.
  • Do not use hot water for whisking matcha; water should be warm to avoid bitterness and preserve nutrients.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, strain the blueberry compote to remove the cooked berries, using only the syrup in your latte.
  • Adjust sugar levels in the compote according to your taste preference, as blueberries provide natural sweetness.
  • Homemade oat milk is an excellent dairy alternative, offering a creamy texture without dairy.
  • Serve the latte fresh as the flavor and texture are best immediately after preparation.
  • If fresh blueberries are unavailable, frozen blueberries can be used as a substitute.
