These festive Buttercream Truffles are the perfect holiday treat, combining a rich, creamy buttercream center coated in smooth melted chocolate and topped with colorful Christmas sprinkles. Easy to make ahead and delightfully indulgent, they are sure to impress at any holiday gathering.

Ingredients

Buttercream Center

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract

Coating and Decoration

  • 1 pound chocolate almond bark
  • Christmas sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Make the Buttercream Mixture: Using an electric mixer in a large bowl, beat the softened butter, vanilla extract, almond extract, and milk until creamy and well combined.
  2. Add Powdered Sugar: Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed to avoid a sugar cloud, until fully incorporated. Then increase the mixer to medium-high and beat until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  3. Chill the Mixture: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the buttercream mixture for at least 2 hours, or optionally overnight (up to 24 hours), to firm it up for easier handling.
  4. Shape the Truffles: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a 1-tablespoon scoop, portion out the chilled buttercream and roll each portion into balls. Place the balls on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Freeze the Truffles: Freeze the buttercream balls for 2 hours until solid enough to dip.
  6. Melt the Chocolate: Place the chocolate almond bark in a microwave-safe bowl and melt in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth.
  7. Dip the Truffles: Using two forks, dip each frozen buttercream ball into the melted chocolate, letting the excess drip off. Lay the coated truffles back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Decorate: Immediately drizzle additional melted chocolate over the truffles and sprinkle festive Christmas sprinkles on top before the coating hardens.
  9. Set and Serve: Allow the chocolate coating to fully harden at room temperature or refrigerate briefly until firm. Serve and enjoy your holiday buttercream truffles!

Notes

  • The buttercream mixture can be refrigerated overnight to save time the day you want to serve the truffles.
  • Use almond extract sparingly as it has a strong flavor; adjust to taste if desired.
  • If you do not have almond bark, you can substitute with high-quality melting chocolate or candy coating.
  • Ensure the truffles are well frozen before dipping to prevent melting and help the coating set smoothly.
  • Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
