These Chocolate Brownie Date Balls are a delicious and healthy no-bake treat combining the natural sweetness of Medjool dates with rich cocoa and pumpkin purée. Packed with walnuts for texture and nutrition, they are perfect as a quick snack or dessert that requires no baking.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup walnuts (2.6 oz total)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, preferably Dutch process
  • Pinch of sea salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 10 pitted Medjool dates
  • 1/4 cup canned or homemade pumpkin purée
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare Nuts: Place 1/3 cup of the walnuts in a food processor fitted with a metal blade. Process until the nuts resemble coarse sand. Transfer to a small bowl and set aside for rolling the date balls later.
  2. Grind Remaining Walnuts: Add the remaining walnuts to the food processor and process until finely ground to form the base texture of the mixture.
  3. Add Wet and Dry Ingredients: To the finely ground walnuts in the food processor, add the dates, pumpkin purée, cocoa powder, sea salt, and vanilla extract. Continue processing until all ingredients are thoroughly combined and smooth, forming a sticky dough.
  4. Form Balls: Using a spoon or your hands, scoop the mixture and roll it into 8 equal, golf-ball-sized balls.
  5. Coat the Balls: Roll each ball in the reserved coarse walnut crumbs to coat the outside, adding texture and flavor.
  6. Serve or Store: Serve immediately or store the date balls in the refrigerator or freezer for later consumption.

Notes

  • Variations on Nuts: Swap walnuts with pecans or almonds for a different flavor and texture.
  • Nut Allergies: Use hemp seeds or pumpkin seeds if you have nut allergies.
  • Pumpkin Purée Alternative: Substitute pumpkin purée with mashed banana or other fruit purees.
  • Date Variation: Regular dates can be used in place of Medjool dates, but add a few more to compensate for their smaller size. Prunes are also a good substitute.
  • Cocoa Powder Alternative: Replace cocoa powder with protein powder to boost the protein content.
  • Add Shredded Coconut to the dough for extra flavor and texture.
