Ingredients

Soaking Ingredients

  • ¼ cup (35g) dried cherries
  • ¼ cup (40g) dates, pitted
  • ½ cup boiling water

Blended Ingredients

  • ½ cup (80g) almonds
  • 2 ½ tablespoons (20g) rolled oats
  • 2 ½ tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon (15g) chia seeds
  • Pinch of salt
  • ¼ cup (50g) dairy free chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Soak the Fruits: Place the dried cherries and pitted dates in a bowl and cover them with boiling water. Let them soak for 10 minutes to soften. After soaking, drain the water but reserve it for later use if needed.
  2. Process Dry Ingredients: Add the almonds and rolled oats to a high-speed food processor and pulse until they reach a coarse flour-like consistency, ensuring a balanced texture for the bliss balls.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Add the soaked and well-drained cherries and dates, cocoa powder, chia seeds, and a pinch of salt to the food processor with the almond and oat mix. Blend thoroughly, scraping down the sides as needed, until all ingredients come together into a sticky dough. If the mixture is too dry, incorporate some of the reserved soaking water incrementally to help bind the mixture.
  4. Add Chocolate Chips: Stir in the optional dairy-free chocolate chips by hand to distribute evenly throughout the mixture without over-processing.
  5. Shape the Bliss Balls: Scoop out about 1 tablespoon of the mixture each time and roll it between your palms to form smooth, round balls. Repeat until all the mixture is used.
  6. Chill and Store: Place the rolled bliss balls in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes to firm up. Once set, store them in an airtight container in the fridge to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • You can substitute almonds with other nuts like walnuts or cashews based on preference or allergies.
  • Use gluten-free oats if you need the recipe to be completely gluten-free.
  • The soaking water can be used sparingly if the mixture feels too dry for rolling, but add gradually to avoid over-moistening.
  • These bliss balls keep well refrigerated for up to one week and can also be frozen for longer storage.
  • If you prefer, you can roll the balls in shredded coconut or cocoa powder for an extra touch before chilling.
