A cozy and refreshing Chocolate Peppermint Tea Latte that combines the rich flavors of bittersweet chocolate and the cool essence of peppermint tea. This warm beverage is perfect for chilly days and offers a delightful balance between creamy milk and vibrant minty notes, with options for dairy or non-dairy milk.

Ingredients

Milk

  • 1 ½ cups whole milk, or almond milk or nut milk for dairy free

Tea

  • 3 peppermint tea bags

Chocolate

  • 10 grams 60% bittersweet chocolate squares

Instructions

  1. Chop Chocolate: Chop chocolate into fine pieces and set aside to ensure it melts quickly and evenly when added to the hot milk.
  2. Heat Milk: Heat the milk in a pot over medium heat until it starts to steam, stirring frequently to prevent a skin from forming or the milk from burning. Avoid boiling to preserve a creamy texture.
  3. Steep Tea: Remove the pot from heat. Add the peppermint tea bags, cover with the lid slightly ajar, and let steep for 10 minutes to infuse the milk with peppermint flavor.
  4. Remove Tea Bags: Gently squeeze the tea bags to extract flavor and remove them from the milk to prevent over-steeping and bitterness.
  5. Reheat Milk: Place the pot back on the stove over medium heat to warm the milk again in preparation for melting chocolate.
  6. Add Chocolate: Stir in the chopped chocolate with a whisk, mixing continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
  7. Create Foam: Remove from heat. Whisk rapidly by hand or use a milk frother to create a lovely foam on top for an appealing texture.
  8. Serve: Pour the finished latte into your favorite mug and enjoy the rich and refreshing flavors.

Notes

  • Use nut milks like almond or coconut for a dairy-free version.
  • Guittard Bittersweet Chocolate works well as a non-dairy chocolate option.
  • 60% dark chocolate complements the peppermint best, but adjust according to your chocolate preference; darker chocolate yields a less sweet drink.
  • Double the chocolate amount for a richer peppermint hot chocolate.
  • Avoid chocolate chips due to emulsifiers that affect melting and blending.
  • Adjust number of tea bags based on desired peppermint strength and taste.
  • Add a drop or two of peppermint extract or peppermint syrup to enhance mint flavor.
  • Top with whipped cream or cocoa powder for a fancy presentation.
