Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 5 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 16 ounces marshmallows (1 bag)
  • 3 drops green gel food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 ½ cups Rice Krispies cereal

Decorations

  • 12 pretzel sticks
  • Christmas sprinkles
  • 4 ounces white chocolate, melted

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pan: Lightly grease a 13×9-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Set it aside while you prepare the mixture.
  2. Melt butter and marshmallows: In a large pot, melt 5 tablespoons of unsalted butter over low heat. Add 16 ounces of marshmallows and stir continuously until completely melted and smooth.
  3. Add color and flavor: Remove the pot from heat. Stir in 3 drops of green gel food coloring and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until evenly combined.
  4. Incorporate the cereal: Fold in 5 ½ cups of Rice Krispies cereal gently, mixing until the cereal is fully coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  5. Press mixture into pan: Pour the coated cereal mixture into the prepared baking dish. Press gently into an even layer without packing too firmly to keep the treats soft.
  6. Let set: Allow the Rice Krispie treats to set at room temperature for at least one hour until firm.
  7. Cut into tree shapes: Once set, slice the treats horizontally in half and then cut into triangular shapes resembling Christmas trees.
  8. Decorate the trees: Melt 4 ounces of white chocolate according to package instructions. Carefully insert one pretzel stick into the base of each triangle as the tree trunk. Pipe melted white chocolate onto the trees and immediately sprinkle Christmas sprinkles on top.
  9. Set and serve: Let the chocolate set before serving. Enjoy these festive, crunchy, and sweet Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats!

Notes

  • Use fresh marshmallows and cereal for best flavor; stale ingredients result in stale treats.
  • Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • Do not press treats too firmly into the baking dish, as this can cause them to become hard. Press gently to keep them soft and chewy.
