Ingredients

Gnocchi

  • 1 pound (450g) Gnocchi (fresh or frozen)

Shrimp Marinade

  • 1 pound (450g) Shrimp (peeled and deveined; large or jumbo recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil (extra virgin preferred)
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes (optional, for heat)

Garlic Parmesan Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons Butter (unsalted)
  • 1 cup (240ml) Heavy Cream
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese (freshly grated)
  • Salt to taste
  • Black Pepper to taste

Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Parsley or Basil (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Gnocchi: If using frozen gnocchi, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook according to package instructions, usually 2-3 minutes or until they float to the surface. Drain the gnocchi and set aside.
  2. Marinate the Shrimp: In a bowl, combine the peeled and deveined shrimp with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, minced garlic, salt, and a pinch of red pepper flakes if using. Let the shrimp marinate for about 15 minutes to infuse flavors.
  3. Make the Garlic Parmesan Sauce: In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant but not browned. Pour in 1 cup of heavy cream and allow it to simmer gently for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Add the Parmesan: Stir in 1 cup of freshly grated Parmesan cheese into the simmering sauce until it melts and the sauce becomes creamy. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Reduce the heat to low to keep the sauce warm.
  5. Cook the Shrimp: Add the marinated shrimp directly into the skillet with the sauce. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the shrimp turn pink and opaque, indicating they are cooked through.
  6. Combine Gnocchi and Sauce: Gently fold the cooked gnocchi into the skillet containing the shrimp and the creamy sauce. Toss everything together carefully to ensure the gnocchi is well coated with the sauce and shrimp are evenly distributed.
  7. Serve: Divide the shrimp and gnocchi mixture among serving plates. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley or basil and additional Parmesan cheese if desired.
  8. Enjoy: Serve immediately for best taste. This dish pairs beautifully with a crisp side salad or warm garlic bread to complete the meal.

Notes

  • Use large or jumbo shrimp for the best texture and appearance.
  • If you prefer a little more heat, increase the amount of red pepper flakes slightly.
  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese is recommended for optimal flavor and smooth sauce texture.
  • Do not overcook the shrimp to avoid toughness; remove them as soon as they turn pink and opaque.
  • Frozen gnocchi is a convenient option and cooks quickly.
  • You can substitute basil for parsley if preferred for garnish.
  • For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half but expect a less thick sauce.
