Crispy Chicken Wings made easy using an air fryer for perfectly cooked, flavorful wings with a smoky, spicy dry rub. These wings are crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and ready in just 16 minutes of cooking time.

Ingredients

Chicken Wings

  • 2 lbs chicken wings

Dry Rub

  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika (regular or smoked)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp chipotle powder (can substitute with chili powder)
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Others

  • 2 Tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Pat the chicken wings very dry with paper towels to ensure crispiness, then place them in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Make dry rub: In a small bowl, combine garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, oregano, chipotle powder, kosher salt, and black pepper. Stir well to blend all the spices uniformly.
  3. Coat chicken wings: Drizzle the wings with olive oil and toss thoroughly to coat. Sprinkle half of the dry rub over the wings and use your hands to massage the spices into the chicken. Repeat with the remaining dry rub to ensure even seasoning.
  4. Air fry: Optionally, place a piece of parchment paper cut to the basket size at the bottom of the air fryer basket right before adding the wings. Place the wings skin side down in a single layer with space between each for even cooking. Cook for 8 minutes, then flip the wings over and cook another 8 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. For multiple batches, keep finished wings warm on a baking sheet in a 250°F oven while continuing to cook the remaining wings.
  5. Serve: Serve the wings hot with your favorite dipping sauces such as ranch, bleu cheese, BBQ, or buffalo, complemented by carrot and celery sticks for a classic combo.

Notes

  • Make sure chicken wings are patted very dry before applying oil and seasoning for maximum crispiness.
  • Use an instant-read meat thermometer to check doneness and ensure food safety.
  • You can substitute chipotle powder with chili powder if you prefer less smoky heat.
  • Cooking times may vary slightly depending on the air fryer model and wing size.
  • Keeping cooked wings warm in a low oven helps maintain texture when cooking in batches.
