Ingredients
Ingredients
1 block (about 14 oz / 400 grams) extra firm tofu
4 tablespoons nutritional yeast
1 tablespoon cornstarch
½ teaspoon fine sea salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
Drain the tofu: Open the package of tofu and drain off any excess water. Do not press or dry it, as the moisture helps achieve a crispy texture when cooking.
Tear into chunks: Using your hands, tear the tofu into irregular, bite-sized chunks and place them in a large bowl.
Season the tofu: Add the nutritional yeast, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to the bowl. Toss well to evenly coat all the tofu pieces with the seasoning mixture. Cook immediately after seasoning; do not let it sit.
Cook in air fryer: Transfer the tofu to the air fryer basket in a single layer. If your basket tends to stick, lightly brush the bottom with a small amount of oil before adding the tofu. Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, tossing halfway through cooking, until the tofu is super crunchy and golden.
Alternatively, bake in the oven: Spread the tofu pieces evenly on a lined baking tray and bake at 425°F (218°C) for 30 to 35 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
Notes
Store leftover tofu in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Leftover tofu tastes great cold or can be reheated for crispiness: reheat in an oven at 350°F for 10 minutes or in an air fryer at 350°F for 4 to 5 minutes.
