Enjoy a rich and creamy Disneyland-style hot chocolate made with a luscious blend of whole milk, heavy cream, high-quality cocoa powder, grated milk chocolate, and sweetened condensed milk. Topped with whipped cream, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and optional chocolate shavings, this indulgent drink perfectly mimics the iconic Disney park flavor.

Ingredients

Hot Chocolate Base

  • 2-3 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup high-quality cocoa powder
  • 1-2 tablespoons grated milk chocolate
  • 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • ⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping and Serving

  • Whipped cream
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the Milk and Cream: Pour 2-3 cups of whole milk and ½ cup of heavy whipping cream into a medium-sized heavy-bottomed saucepan. Heat over medium heat until the mixture is steaming and small bubbles form around the edges, making sure not to boil to avoid scalding.
  2. Prepare Chocolate Mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together ½ cup of cocoa powder and 1-2 tablespoons of grated milk chocolate. Add about ½ cup of the hot milk mixture from the saucepan into this bowl, whisking until smooth to prevent lumps.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Slowly pour the smooth chocolate mixture back into the saucepan while whisking constantly. Add the entire 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk and ⅛ teaspoon of vanilla extract. Whisk thoroughly until the hot chocolate base is smooth and fully combined.
  4. Simmer and Thicken: Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently. The hot chocolate should thicken enough to coat the back of a spoon. Adjust thickness by adding more milk if desired.
  5. Serve and Garnish: Ladle the hot chocolate into heat-resistant mugs. Top with whipped cream, sprinkle ground cinnamon over the top, and add optional chocolate shavings for extra decadence. Serve immediately while hot for the best experience.

Notes

  • Use high-quality Dutch-processed cocoa powder and premium milk chocolate like Ghirardelli or Scharffen Berger for an authentic Disney taste.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat gently over low heat; avoid microwaving to prevent separation.
  • This recipe can be doubled or tripled for larger groups without changing the cooking process.
