Easter Crack is a delightful and easy-to-make saltine toffee recipe perfect for spring celebrations. This crunchy, sweet treat combines salty crackers with buttery brown sugar toffee, topped with melted white chocolate swirled with pink coloring and festive pastel candies for a perfect balance of flavors and textures.

Ingredients

Base

  • 40 saltine crackers

Toffee Sauce

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup salted butter

Toppings

  • 3 cups white chocolate chips, divided
  • Pink gel food coloring
  • 1/2 cup pastel Easter M&M’s
  • 1/4 cup chopped mini eggs
  • 2 tablespoons pastel sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare baking sheet: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and catching of hot toffee.
  2. Arrange saltines: Lay out 40 saltine crackers in a single layer across the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they cover the entire surface without overlapping.
  3. Melt butter and sugar: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 1 cup salted butter. Once melted, add 1 cup brown sugar and whisk continuously for 3 to 4 minutes until the sugar has completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Pour toffee over crackers: Remove the saucepan from heat and immediately pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the arranged saltine crackers, making sure all crackers are coated.
  5. Bake the toffee-layered crackers: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 4 minutes. The toffee will bubble and become very hot; this step helps the sugar caramelize and stick to the crackers.
  6. Add white chocolate chips: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle 2 cups of white chocolate chips over the hot crackers so they begin to melt. Once melted, spread the chocolate evenly over the crackers.
  7. Prepare pink chocolate swirl: Melt the remaining 1 cup of white chocolate chips in the microwave until smooth. Add 1 to 2 drops of pink gel food coloring and stir until the color is completely blended.
  8. Swirl pink chocolate over white chocolate: Drop spoonfuls of the pink colored melted chocolate over the white chocolate layer. Use a fork or the back of a spoon to swirl the pink into the white chocolate for a marbled effect.
  9. Add pastel toppings: Sprinkle 1/2 cup pastel Easter M&M’s, 1/4 cup chopped mini eggs, and 2 tablespoons pastel sprinkles over the chocolate layer while it is still soft to ensure they stick.
  10. Chill and harden: Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the toffee and chocolates to harden completely.
  11. Break and serve: Once hardened, break the toffee into chunky pieces and enjoy your festive Easter Crack treats!

Notes

  • Allow the toffee to harden fully before breaking to ensure crisp edges and easier handling.
  • Use a rimmed baking sheet to prevent the hot buttery toffee from spilling over during baking.
  • Be cautious when handling the hot toffee mixture and the baking sheet as both will be extremely hot during pouring and baking stages.
