A simple and flavorful recipe for cooking mahi mahi fillets in the air fryer using a homemade taco seasoning blend, delivering tender, flaky fish perfect for tacos, bowls, or a healthy main dish.

Ingredients

Fish

  • 2 (6 ounce) mahi mahi fillets, thawed
  • Avocado oil or olive oil spray
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning

Taco Seasoning

  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fish: Pat the mahi mahi fillets dry thoroughly with paper towels to remove excess moisture to help achieve a better sear and even cooking. Then spray a light coating of avocado or olive oil spray evenly over both sides of the fillets.
  2. Mix Seasoning: In a small bowl, combine all the taco seasoning ingredients: paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, oregano, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to blend all the spices evenly.
  3. Season the Fillets: Sprinkle the taco seasoning mixture evenly over both sides of the mahi mahi fillets, pressing lightly to adhere.
  4. Air Fry the Fish: Place the seasoned fillets in a single layer in the air fryer basket or on the air fryer rack. Set the air fryer to 400°F (204°C) and cook for 10 minutes, flipping the fillets halfway through at about 5 minutes. Cook until the fish flakes easily with a fork, adjusting the time by 1-2 minutes depending on fillet thickness.
  5. Serve: Carefully remove the cooked mahi mahi from the air fryer. Serve immediately either in tacos, over rice bowls garnished with guacamole, diced avocado, pico de gallo, shredded lettuce or slaw, or black bean and corn salsa. It can also be served simply alongside roasted vegetables for a healthy, balanced meal.

Notes

  • Ensure fillets are thawed and patted dry for best air frying results.
  • Cooking time may vary based on thickness—check for doneness by seeing if the fish flakes easily.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste or add a squeeze of fresh lime juice for extra brightness.
  • Use a light spray of oil to avoid sogginess and help crisp exterior.
  • Perfect for a quick, healthy meal that’s low in calories and packed with flavor.
