Fluffernutter Bars are a decadent layered treat combining soft peanut butter cookie dough, gooey marshmallow creme, and delicious peanut butter cups. These bars offer a perfect balance of sweet and nutty flavors with a delightful chewy texture, ideal for dessert or a special snack.

Ingredients

Cookie Dough

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup chocolate chips

Layering & Filling

  • 9-12 regular size peanut butter cups
  • 7 ounces marshmallow creme or marshmallow fluff

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the bars.
  2. Prepare Pan: Line an 8×11 inch baking pan with parchment paper, ensuring the paper hangs over all edges to easily lift the bars after baking.
  3. Make Cookie Dough: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the egg, peanut butter, and vanilla extract, mixing well. Gradually add the all-purpose flour and mix until combined. Fold in the chocolate chips gently.
  4. Layer Dough Base: Press approximately two-thirds of the cookie dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form the base layer.
  5. Add Marshmallow and Peanut Butter Cups: Spread the entire 7-ounce container of marshmallow creme evenly over the cookie dough base. Arrange the peanut butter cups in a single even layer atop the marshmallow creme, making sure they do not overlap.
  6. Top with Marshmallow and Remaining Dough: Spread a layer of marshmallow fluff over the peanut butter cups. Cover this layer with the remaining cookie dough, gently pressing it down to form an even top layer.
  7. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes, or until the top crust starts to turn golden brown.
  8. Cool: Remove the bars from the oven and keep them in the pan for one hour to allow them to slowly continue cooking and cool to room temperature.
  9. Remove from Pan and Slice: Lift the bars out of the pan using the overhanging parchment paper. Transfer to a wire rack and allow them to cool completely until set before slicing into bars.

Notes

  • Nutrition information is an estimate and may vary depending on exact ingredients and portion sizes used.
  • For convenience, you can substitute pre-made chocolate chip cookie dough to save preparation time.
  • The recipe works well in both an 8×11 inch rectangular pan or a 9-inch square pan; the square pan might require a few extra minutes baking due to thicker layers.
  • Use regular peanut butter rather than natural peanut butter, as natural types may separate and affect baking results.
  • Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days to maintain freshness.
