Ingredients

Salmon

  • 2 pounds salmon fillets, skin on
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Glaze

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons stone ground mustard
  • Zest of one orange
  • Juice of one lemon
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the salmon.
  2. Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup and transfer the salmon fillets onto it, placing them skin side down. Season with salt and pepper evenly.
  3. Make Foil Tent: Fold up the sides of the aluminum foil around the salmon, creating a shallow tent to help keep moisture in during baking.
  4. Prepare Glaze: In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together olive oil, brown sugar, soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, stone ground mustard, orange zest, lemon juice, and orange juice until well combined.
  5. Apply Glaze and Butter: Pour the prepared glaze evenly over the salmon. Spread the optional unsalted butter over the top of the fish to add richness and help with caramelization.
  6. Seal and Bake: Cover the salmon by folding the aluminum foil edges on top and seal tightly. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, checking carefully to avoid overcooking. The salmon should be tender and cooked through.
  7. Broil for Caramelization: Carefully uncover the foil from the top and baste the salmon with some of the glaze and butter from the foil. Set your oven to broil and place the salmon under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the glaze is bubbly, brown, and caramelized.
  8. Serve: Remove from oven and serve immediately. This salmon pairs wonderfully with fresh salad greens, steamed vegetables, or your favorite sides. Enjoy your flavorful, glazed salmon!

Notes

  • Do not overcook the salmon during baking to maintain a moist and flaky texture.
  • The optional butter adds richness but can be omitted for a lighter dish.
  • Use fresh garlic and freshly squeezed citrus juices for the best flavor.
  • Broiling at the end creates a beautiful caramelized crust, so keep a close eye to prevent burning.
  • This recipe is versatile and can be doubled or halved depending on your needs.
