This Garlic Parmesan Chicken Tortellini is a creamy, comforting pasta dish featuring tender chicken, cheesy tortellini, and fresh broccoli in a rich garlic Parmesan sauce. Quick to prepare and packed with flavor, it makes a perfect weeknight dinner that feels indulgent yet satisfying.

Ingredients

Pasta

  • 12 ounces cheese tortellini

Chicken

  • 2 chicken breasts, bite-sized
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Sauce

  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup Parmesan, freshly grated

Vegetables & Garnish

  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook Tortellini: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cheese tortellini and cook according to the package instructions—3 to 5 minutes for fresh tortellini or 8 to 10 minutes for frozen—until tender. Drain and set aside, reserving some pasta water if needed.
  2. Cook Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the bite-sized chicken pieces with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Add chicken to the skillet and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Sauté Garlic and Prepare Sauce: In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and sauté minced garlic for about 1 minute until fragrant. Pour in the heavy cream and chicken broth, then bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly. Stir in the freshly grated Parmesan until melted and the sauce becomes creamy.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Add the cooked chicken, broccoli florets (steamed beforehand to maintain bright color and tenderness), and cooked tortellini back into the skillet. Toss everything together carefully so the pasta and vegetables are evenly coated with the creamy garlic Parmesan sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.
  5. Final Seasoning and Garnish: Taste the dish and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed. Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley over the top as a bright, fresh garnish. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Avoid overcrowding the pan when cooking the chicken to ensure it browns nicely instead of steaming.
  • Save some pasta cooking water to thin out the sauce if it becomes too thick.
  • Steam broccoli separately before adding it to the sauce to retain its vibrant color and fresh texture.
