Sweet and fluffy Hawaiian Roll French Toast is a delightful breakfast treat made by dipping soft Hawaiian rolls in a rich egg mixture and pan-frying them until golden brown. Ready in just 25 minutes, it’s a quick and indulgent way to start your morning.

Ingredients

French Toast Base

  • 1 package (12-count) Hawaiian rolls
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

For Cooking & Serving

  • 2–3 tablespoons butter (for frying)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Maple syrup (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  2. Slice the Rolls: Take the 12-count Hawaiian rolls and carefully slice each one in half horizontally to create two even layers, perfect for dipping and frying.
  3. Dip the Rolls: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a pat of butter, allowing it to melt and coat the surface. Dip each half of the Hawaiian roll into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are coated evenly but not soaksoggy to avoid falling apart.
  4. Cook the Rolls: Place the dipped roll halves onto the preheated skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until they develop a golden brown color and slightly crisp edges, indicating they are cooked through.
  5. Serve Immediately: Transfer the cooked French toast to a serving plate. Dust generously with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup if desired. Serve warm for the best taste and texture experience.

Notes

  • Ensure the rolls are dipped briefly to prevent them from becoming too soggy and falling apart during cooking.
  • If preferred, substitute whole milk and heavy cream with alternatives like almond milk or oat milk, but adjust flavor accordingly.
  • Can be kept warm in a low oven while finishing the rest of the batch.
  • Use fresh cinnamon for the best aroma and flavor.
  • Maple syrup is optional but adds a nice sweetness contrast.
