This Homemade Doritos recipe transforms simple organic corn tortillas into crispy, flavorful tortilla chips coated with a zesty seasoning blend of chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and nutritional yeast. Perfect for snacking or serving with your favorite dips, these chips are baked to golden perfection in your oven.

Ingredients

Chips

  • 4 organic corn tortillas
  • 1 Tbsp avocado oil

Seasoning Blend

  • ¾ tsp chili powder
  • ¾ tsp smoked paprika
  • ¾ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp nutritional yeast

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 360°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking your tortilla chips.
  2. Cut the tortillas: Using scissors, a pizza cutter, or a sharp knife, cut each corn tortilla into 6 or 8 even-sized triangles for uniform chips. Stack several tortillas to speed up the process.
  3. Coat with oil: Place the tortilla triangles into a medium bowl, add 1 tablespoon of avocado oil, and toss them well to ensure each chip is evenly coated with oil, which helps the seasoning stick and promotes crispiness.
  4. Prepare the seasoning: In a separate small bowl, mix together the chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and nutritional yeast. Sprinkle this seasoning blend over the oiled tortilla chips and gently rub it in with your hands for even coverage.
  5. Bake the chips: Spread the seasoned tortilla chips in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, flipping the chips halfway through baking to ensure even cooking. Keep an eye on them after 10 minutes to prevent burning.
  6. Cool and crisp: Remove the chips from the oven and allow them to cool completely in a single layer. Cooling crisps them up to the perfect crunchy texture. Serve and enjoy your homemade Doritos!

Notes

  • Experiment with different herbs, spices, and seasoning blends to customize the flavor of your tortilla chips.
  • Using avocado oil helps achieve a crispy texture and adds a subtle, healthy fat component.
  • Ensure chips are spread out in a single layer while baking and cooling to avoid sogginess from steaming.
  • Store leftover chips in an airtight container to maintain crispiness.
