This Honey Garlic Salmon recipe features perfectly seasoned salmon fillets cooked in a rich, flavorful honey garlic sauce made with butter, garlic, soy sauce, and a hint of chili. The salmon is first seared on the stovetop to lock in moisture and flavor, then broiled to caramelized perfection. It’s a quick, savory, and slightly sweet dish ideal for an impressive weeknight dinner or special occasion.

Ingredients

Salmon

  • 6 salmon fillets, 6 oz each
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (or regular paprika)
  • 1/4 teaspoon blackening seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Honey Garlic Sauce

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Season the Fish: Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. In a small bowl, mix together salt, pepper, paprika, blackening seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder. Gently rub this seasoning mixture into both sides of each salmon fillet. Set the fillets aside while preparing the sauce.
  2. Preheat the Broiler: Adjust your oven rack to the middle position and preheat the broiler to ensure it’s hot and ready for caramelizing the salmon after searing.
  3. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the unsalted butter and olive oil, letting the butter melt completely. Then add minced garlic, brown sugar, water, soy sauce, chili sauce, rice vinegar, honey, and lemon juice to the skillet. Stir the mixture continuously and cook for about 30 seconds until the sauce is warmed through and well combined.
  4. Cook the Salmon: Add the seasoned salmon fillets to the skillet, placing them skin-side down if your fillets have skin. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes, spooning the honey garlic sauce over the top frequently to baste and infuse the fish with flavor while it sears.
  5. Broil to Finish: Transfer the entire skillet into the preheated oven under the broiler. Broil the salmon for about 5 minutes, basting with the sauce a couple of times during cooking. Watch closely and broil until the fillets turn caramelized and reach your desired level of doneness.
  6. Serve: Remove the salmon from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped parsley or green onions to add a burst of color and fresh flavor. Serve immediately, spooning extra sauce over the fillets for a delicious finish.

Notes

  • You can substitute regular paprika if smoked paprika isn’t available.
  • For a spicier dish, increase the amount of chili sauce or add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • Ensure salmon fillets are dry before seasoning for better searing and flavor absorption.
  • Use a cast iron or oven-safe skillet to go seamlessly from stovetop to oven.
  • Do not overcook the salmon under the broiler; it can quickly go from caramelized to burnt.
