This Imitation Crab Dip is a creamy and flavorful appetizer made with mayonnaise, lemon juice, and a medley of spices, combined with finely minced vegetables and shredded imitation crab sticks. Perfect for serving chilled with crackers, celery stalks, or on sub rolls, this dip offers a delightful blend of textures and tastes that will please any crowd.

Ingredients

Dip Ingredients

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • ½ teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill
  • 2 tablespoons finely minced celery
  • 1 tablespoon finely minced shallot
  • 16 oz imitation crab sticks (approximately 2 packs of 8 oz each)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dressing: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, water, Kosher salt, lemon juice, garlic powder, paprika, dried dill, minced celery, and minced shallot until the mixture is smooth and well combined, creating a flavorful base for the dip.
  2. Prepare the crab sticks: Cut three-quarters of the imitation crab sticks into 1 cm pieces and add them to the bowl with the dressing. Take the remaining quarter of the crab sticks, cut them into fourths, and then shred or finely cut them into thin shreds. This technique adds varied texture to the dip.
  3. Combine and chill: Gently fold the shredded crab sticks into the mixture to evenly distribute them. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the dip for at least one hour to allow the flavors to meld together.
  4. Serve: After chilling, serve the crab dip chilled with your choice of crackers, celery stalks, or spread on a sub roll for a delicious appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • Use imitation crab sticks instead of flakes or chunks to achieve the best texture for this dip. If sticks are unavailable, flakes or chunks can be used as a substitute.
  • Store the prepared dip covered in the refrigerator for up to one week to maintain freshness and flavor.
