This quick and easy dish is perfect for a healthy keto dinner packed with protein and bold flavors.

Ingredients

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup (60 g) beef broth
  • 1/4 cup (58 g) tamari
  • 1 1/2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp chili garlic sauce or Sriracha
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 to 3/4 tsp glucomannan or 1/4 tsp xanthan gum

Stir Fry

  • 2 lb (907.18 g) flank or top sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 to 3 tbsp avocado oil, divided
  • 1/4 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 large red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, tamari, toasted sesame oil, chili garlic sauce (or Sriracha), minced garlic, ground ginger, and glucomannan or xanthan gum until well combined. Set the sauce aside to use later.
  2. Tenderize the Steak: In a large bowl, toss the thinly sliced steak with baking soda to coat evenly. Let it sit for 15 minutes to tenderize. Afterward, rinse the steak slices thoroughly under cold water, drain well, and pat dry with paper towels.
  3. Sear the Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the steak slices in a single layer and sear quickly for about 1 minute on each side, depending on thickness. Remove the cooked steak to a plate. Repeat this process with the remaining steak and oil until all meat is cooked to your liking.
  4. Cook the Vegetables: In the same skillet or wok, add the thinly sliced onions and bell peppers. Stir fry for 2 to 3 minutes until the vegetables become tender but still crisp.
  5. Combine and Finish: Return the cooked steak and any juices accumulated on the plate back into the pan with the vegetables. Pour in the prepared sauce and stir well. Cook until the sauce thickens slightly, coating the steak and vegetables. Season with salt, pepper, and additional chili garlic sauce if desired. Optionally, sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the top before serving.

Notes

  • Using baking soda helps tenderize the steak, but ensure to rinse well to avoid any off-flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of chili garlic sauce or Sriracha according to your preferred spice level.
  • Thin slices of steak cook quickly; slice as thinly as possible for best results.
  • Glucomannan or xanthan gum acts as a thickener for the sauce; use sparingly to avoid a gummy texture.
  • Serve with cauliflower rice or steamed greens for a complete keto meal.
