This Pizza Hut-inspired homemade dough recipe delivers a soft, slightly chewy crust reminiscent of your favorite takeout pizza. Easy to prepare from scratch, this dough forms the perfect base for endless pizza toppings, making homemade pizza nights fun and delicious.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet dry yeast (about 2¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup warm water (110°F or 45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar thoroughly to ensure even distribution of flavors.
  2. Activate the Yeast: Sprinkle the dry yeast over the warm water (110°F or 45°C) and allow it to sit for about 5 minutes, until it becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is activated and ready for rising.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Pour the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough starts to form, bringing the mixture together.
  4. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for 8–10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic, which develops the gluten structure.
  5. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and leave it in a warm area to rise until doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
  6. Prepare for Baking: After rising, punch down the dough gently to release air bubbles, then roll out to fit your pizza pan or stone, shaping the crust as desired.
  7. Add Toppings and Bake: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Add your favorite pizza toppings on the dough, then bake for 15–20 minutes or until the crust turns golden brown and the cheese becomes bubbly.

Notes

  • Crispier Crust Tip: For a crispier crust, pre-bake the rolled-out dough for 5 minutes before adding toppings, then continue baking as directed.
  • Make-Ahead Option: This dough can be prepared in advance and refrigerated for up to 24 hours after the first rise. Allow it to come to room temperature before rolling out.
  • Flavored Crust: Enhance your pizza by brushing the crust edges with garlic butter or sprinkling Parmesan cheese before baking.
