Ingredients

Meat and Cheese

  • 6 ounces Italian sausage
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 24 pepperoni slices

Rolls and Sauce

  • 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls or slider rolls
  • 1 cup pizza sauce (marinara sauce can be used), divided

Topping Mixture

  • 1/4 cup salted butter, melted
  • 3 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Dash of crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley

Optional

  • Extra pizza sauce or marinara sauce for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or aluminum foil, then grease it lightly with cooking oil spray. Set aside.
  2. Cook Italian sausage: In a medium skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage, stirring occasionally, until fully browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat and set the sausage aside.
  3. Slice rolls: Using a serrated knife, carefully slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, ensuring the tops and bottoms stay connected as one piece.
  4. Assemble slider base: Place the bottom half of the connected rolls into the prepared baking dish. Spread ½ cup of pizza sauce evenly over the bottom rolls.
  5. Add cheese and toppings: Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella evenly over the sauce. Layer the cooked Italian sausage and pepperoni slices on top, then sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of mozzarella cheese over the meat.
  6. Prepare tops: Spread the remaining ½ cup of pizza sauce on the cut side of the top halves of the rolls. Place the top halves on the cheesy layer, forming one cohesive large sandwich.
  7. Make garlic butter mixture: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and crushed red pepper flakes until well combined.
  8. Apply garlic butter and bake: Brush the tops of the rolls generously with the garlic butter mixture and sprinkle with chopped parsley. Cover the entire dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the cheese has melted.
  9. Bake uncovered: Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 5 minutes or until the tops of the rolls are lightly browned and crispy.
  10. Serve: Remove from oven and slice into individual sliders using a sharp knife. Serve immediately with optional extra pizza or marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Keep the top and bottom halves of the rolls connected during slicing to make assembly easier and to maintain the slider shape.
  • Drain the cooked sausage well to avoid soggy sliders.
  • Feel free to customize toppings by adding vegetables like mushrooms or bell peppers if desired.
  • If you prefer spicier sliders, increase the crushed red pepper flakes in the garlic butter mixture.
  • These sliders are best served warm for melty cheese and soft rolls.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the oven at 350°F for 10 minutes to regain crispiness.
