These Spinach and Feta Turkey Burgers are a delicious, healthy twist on the classic burger, combining lean ground turkey with fresh spinach, tangy feta cheese, and Italian seasoning. Perfectly cooked in a pan for juicy, flavorful burgers that are quick and easy to make.

Ingredients

Turkey Burger Mixture

  • 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
  • 1 cup finely chopped fresh spinach (measured after chopping)
  • ⅓ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • ¼ cup diced red onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

For Cooking

  • 1 tbsp avocado oil

Instructions

  1. Mix Ingredients: Add all ingredients except the avocado oil into a large bowl. Use your hands to gently mix everything together until just incorporated. Be careful not to overmix to avoid tough burgers.
  2. Form Patties: Portion the mixture into 4 to 5 equally sized burgers. Make them slightly thinner than your desired final thickness to account for shrinking and doming during cooking.
  3. Preheat Pan and Cook Burgers: Heat a large pan, preferably cast-iron, over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the avocado oil. Place the turkey spinach and feta burgers in the pan and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. If the burgers brown too quickly, reduce the heat to medium.
  4. Serve: Serve the cooked burgers warm, ideally with a simple side salad and roasted sweet potatoes for a balanced meal. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Do not overmix the burger mixture to keep the texture tender.
  • Make patties thinner than desired final size because they will shrink and dome while cooking.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F for safety.
  • Cast iron pans provide even heat and great searing.
  • Serving suggestions include a side salad and roasted sweet potatoes for a nutritious meal.
