This easy and delicious vegan Chocolate Hummus recipe combines simple pantry ingredients to create a creamy, sweet dip perfect for snacking or dessert. Ready in just 5 minutes, it’s smooth, chocolaty, and pairs beautifully with berries, crackers, or pretzels for guilt-free indulgence.

Ingredients

For the Hummus:

  • 1 (15 oz) can of chickpeas, rinsed and drained (skins removed for extra creaminess)
  • 1/3 cup drippy tahini (or 1/2 cup peanut butter or other nut butter)
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder or cacao powder
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup (use 1/2 cup for a sweeter hummus)
  • 1/4 cup milk of choice (vanilla almond milk recommended), plus more if needed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips (dairy-free if desired)

For Serving:

  • Berries (strawberries, raspberries, etc.)
  • Crackers
  • Pita chips
  • Pretzels or pretzel thins
  • Graham crackers

Instructions

  1. Prepare Chickpeas: Rinse and drain the chickpeas thoroughly. For an extra creamy hummus, remove the skins by gently rubbing the chickpeas between your fingers.
  2. Blend Ingredients: Add the chickpeas, tahini (or chosen nut butter), cocoa powder, maple syrup, milk, vanilla extract, and salt into a food processor or blender. Process until the mixture is smooth and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed. Add more milk if necessary to achieve a frosting-like dip consistency.
  3. Incorporate Chocolate Chips: Stir in the mini chocolate chips gently by hand to evenly distribute them throughout the hummus.
  4. Serve: Transfer the chocolate hummus to a serving bowl. Optionally, sprinkle additional mini chocolate chips on top for presentation. Serve alongside berries, crackers, pita chips, pretzels, or graham crackers for dipping.
  5. Storage: Store any leftover hummus in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will keep fresh for up to one week.

Notes

  • Removing chickpea skins creates a smoother texture but is optional.
  • Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of maple syrup to taste.
  • Use any plant-based milk you prefer; vanilla almond milk adds a nice subtle flavor.
  • This recipe is naturally vegan and can be made gluten-free by choosing gluten-free dippers.
  • Keep refrigerated and consume within one week for best taste and quality.
