Tiramisu Ice Cream is a creamy and decadent dessert that combines the rich flavors of traditional tiramisu with the smooth texture of homemade ice cream. This recipe blends mascarpone cheese, espresso, and amaretto for an authentic Italian-inspired treat, enhanced with semi-sweet chocolate and ladyfingers for added texture and flavor.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons amaretto
  • ½ cup sugar
  • Pinch of salt

Espresso Mixture

  • ½ cup espresso
  • 1 ounce Baker’s semi-sweet chocolate

Add-ins

  • 8 ladyfingers, roughly chopped, plus more for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Blend the ingredients: In a food processor or blender, combine the mascarpone cheese, whole milk, amaretto, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Puree the mixture until it is completely blended and smooth, ensuring a creamy base for your ice cream.
  2. Chill the mixture: Transfer the blended ice cream base to the refrigerator and chill it for one hour. This step helps the flavors to meld and prepares the mixture for churning.
  3. Churn the ice cream: Pour the chilled mixture into your ice cream maker and follow the manufacturer’s instructions to churn it. Churning aerates the ice cream and gives it a smooth texture.
  4. Brew espresso and melt chocolate: While the ice cream is churning, brew ½ cup of espresso. Finely chop the semi-sweet chocolate and stir it into the hot espresso until it fully melts, creating a rich coffee-chocolate infusion.
  5. Combine espresso and ladyfingers: During the last 5 minutes of churning, slowly add the espresso-chocolate mixture into the ice cream one teaspoon at a time to evenly distribute the flavor. Then, fold in the roughly chopped ladyfingers, if using, to add a delightful crunch and classic tiramisu element.
  6. Freeze the ice cream: Once churning is complete, transfer the ice cream to an airtight container. Freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm. Before serving, top with additional cocoa powder and chocolate shavings for extra elegance and flavor.

Notes

  • Using fresh, strong espresso will enhance the coffee flavor in your ice cream.
  • If you don’t have an ice cream maker, you can freeze the mixture in a container and stir vigorously every 30 minutes until firm.
  • Ladyfingers are optional but add a traditional tiramisu texture; you can omit them for a smoother ice cream.
  • Adjust the amount of amaretto to taste or substitute with coffee liqueur if preferred.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute mascarpone and milk with coconut cream, but flavor and texture will differ.
