Deliciously rich and chewy Toasted Coconut Magic Bars with a buttery graham cracker crust, layers of semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips, toasted walnuts, and sweetened toasted coconut, all bound together by creamy sweetened condensed milk. Perfect for a crowd-pleasing dessert or an indulgent treat.

Ingredients

Crust

  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs (or graham crackers crushed)
  • ½ cup butter, melted

Toppings

  • 1 ½ cups sweetened coconut flakes, shredded and toasted
  • ¾ cups semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup walnuts, toasted and chopped
  • ¾ cups milk chocolate chips
  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the magic bars.
  2. Prepare the baking dish: Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  3. Toast the walnuts: Place walnuts on a paper towel and microwave for 1 minute. Toss and microwave again for 1 minute. Repeat until the walnuts are nicely toasted. Allow to cool, then chop into small pieces.
  4. Toast the coconut: Using the microwave method, place sweetened coconut flakes on a paper towel, toast for 1-2 minutes, stirring or turning to prevent burning, until they achieve a golden toasted color.
  5. Make the crust: In a large mixing bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs and melted butter until the mixture is evenly moistened.
  6. Press the crust: Firmly press the crust mixture into the bottom of the prepared 9×13-inch pan, spreading evenly to the corners and ensuring a compact base.
  7. Add chocolate chips: Sprinkle both semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips evenly over the graham cracker crust layer.
  8. Add walnuts: Spread the toasted, chopped walnuts evenly over the chocolate chips layer.
  9. Add coconut: Evenly distribute the toasted shredded coconut flakes over the walnut layer.
  10. Pour condensed milk: Slowly pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over all layers, covering all sections so the layers are bound together.
  11. Bake: Place the pan in the oven and bake for 25 minutes, until the coconut topping turns a toasted golden brown and the bars are set.
  12. Cool and serve: Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before cutting into squares. Serve on a platter and enjoy.

Notes

  • Toasting the coconut and walnuts intensifies their flavors and adds a lovely crunch.
  • You can substitute walnuts with pecans if desired.
  • For easier removal, line the pan with parchment paper with an overhang to lift the bars.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • Microwave toasting times may vary slightly depending on your appliance; watch carefully to avoid burning.
