Crispy and flavorful Parmesan Onion Rings that are baked, not fried, for a healthier twist on a classic snack. These golden, cheese-crusted onion rings feature a perfect blend of parmesan, aromatic spices, and a slight crispness that will satisfy your cravings with less guilt.

Ingredients

Onion Rings

  • 2 white onions, sliced into 1/4 inch thick rings

Cheese Coating

  • 2 cups shredded Parmesan cheese

Seasonings

  • Salt, to taste
  • Garlic powder, to taste
  • Paprika, to taste
  • Italian seasoning, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Create Cheese Mold: For each onion ring, place about 1 tablespoon of shredded Parmesan directly onto the parchment paper, forming a small circular ‘mold’ that will hold the onion slice in place as it bakes.
  3. Assemble Onion Rings: Place one onion slice on top of each Parmesan cheese base. Then add another tablespoon of shredded Parmesan cheese on top of the onion ring.
  4. Press and Season: Gently press down with the back of a spoon to slightly flatten and help the cheese bond with the onion. Sprinkle each ring with salt, garlic powder, paprika, and Italian seasoning according to your taste preference.
  5. Bake: Bake the assembled onion rings in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown and crisp around the edges.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the Parmesan onion rings to cool on the baking sheet for 10 to 15 minutes after baking so they can set and become extra crispy before serving.

Notes

  • One serving is approximately 4 to 5 onion rings, depending on the thickness of the onion rings and the amount of cheese used.
  • Adjust seasoning amounts to your preference for a milder or more intense flavor.
  • Use white onions for a sweeter flavor; yellow or red onions can be used for variation.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature and reheat in the oven for best texture.
