This White Pizza Sauce is a quick and easy garlic alfredo-style sauce made with simple ingredients like butter, flour, milk, garlic, and parmesan cheese. Ready in about 5 minutes, it’s a creamy and flavorful alternative to standard white pizza sauces found at pizza chains, perfect for elevating homemade pizza with rich, cheesy garlic goodness.

Ingredients

White Pizza Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cup milk (2% or whole milk)
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 2 garlic cloves, pressed or finely grated
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Heat Butter and Flour: Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour and continue whisking constantly for 1-2 minutes, ensuring it does not brown to form a smooth roux.
  2. Add Milk: Slowly pour in the milk while whisking continuously. Keep whisking until the mixture is smooth, thickened, and starts to bubble gently.
  3. Season and Add Garlic: Whisk in sea salt, black pepper, and pressed garlic cloves until evenly incorporated.
  4. Add Parmesan: Stir in the shredded parmesan cheese and whisk for another 30 seconds until the cheese melts completely and the sauce is smooth.
  5. Finish and Cool: Remove the saucepan from heat and continue whisking off the heat to prevent curdling. Let the sauce cool before using it on pizza. Once cooled, store covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Notes

  • Makes about 1 1/2 cups of sauce, enough for approximately 4 (10-inch) pizzas.
  • Do not let the sauce boil after adding the cheese to avoid curdling.
  • Use fresh grated parmesan for the best melting and flavor.
  • Keep whisking constantly during the cooking steps for smooth texture.
  • Refrigerate leftover sauce and rewarm gently before using.
