Cheeseburger Pie is a savory, hearty dish combining seasoned ground beef and onions with a cheesy Bisquick topping baked until golden and set. This easy-to-make pie blends classic cheeseburger flavors with a comforting casserole style, perfect for a family dinner or casual meal.

Ingredients

Meat Mixture

  • 1 1/2 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped white onions
  • 2 tbsp granulated garlic powder
  • 1 tsp red pepper
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp oregano

Cheese

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterrey Jack cheese

Batter

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup Bisquick baking mix

Instructions

  1. Brown Beef and Onions: In a medium-sized skillet, add the lean ground beef and chopped onions. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully browned and onions are tender.
  2. Drain Excess Fat: Carefully drain out any excess fat from the skillet to avoid greasiness in the pie.
  3. Prepare Pie Dish: Spray a 9-inch deep dish round pie dish with non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  4. Season Beef Mixture: Add the granulated garlic powder, red pepper, black pepper, and oregano directly to the skillet with the cooked beef and onions. Stir thoroughly to evenly distribute the seasonings.
  5. Transfer to Pie Dish: Pour the seasoned beef mixture into the prepared pie dish and spread evenly.
  6. Mix Cheeses: Combine the shredded Monterrey Jack and cheddar cheese in a bowl, mixing evenly.
  7. Top Meat with Cheese: Sprinkle 3/4 cup of the cheese mixture evenly over the beef layer in the pie dish.
  8. Preheat Oven: Heat the oven to 400°F (204°C) to get ready for baking.
  9. Prepare Bisquick Batter: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the Bisquick baking mix, milk, and eggs until smooth. Then fold the remaining cheese into this mixture.
  10. Pour Batter Over Pie: Pour the Bisquick and cheese batter evenly over the beef and cheese layer in the pie dish, covering it completely.
  11. Bake the Pie: Place the pie dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the center is set and the top is golden brown. Test doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out clean.
  12. Cool and Set: Remove the pie from the oven and let it rest for 2-3 minutes to fully set before serving.
  13. Optional Garnish: Top with chopped green onions for added freshness and flavor if desired.

Notes

  • You can customize the pie by adding your favorite cheeseburger toppings such as dill pickles or diced jalapeños for extra flavor and texture.
  • Always check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the pie; if it comes out clean, the pie is ready to be taken out of the oven.
